First Things First

Hello!

It’s about time we stepped forward and said something about efforts underway to create a new FGC monthly series in the St. Louis metro area. We’ve been working behind the scenes for some time now to find a suitable venue and decide some things before saying too much.

We’re still working to finalize a venue and select a date for the first monthly tournament, but as soon as we do, we’ll need your help to spread the word and make it successful. We are hoping to hold the first monthly in the first half of this year.

About Monthlies

The goal of monthlies will be to gather the StL FGC community in one place, spend time testing one another’s abilities and skills in a competitive environment, provide a great atmosphere for pre- and post-tournament casuals, and invite players from other cities to join us if they would like.

Once monthlies are moving along great, the next goal is to work to provide more opportunities for casual play that have inexpensive venue or participation fees and create a solid foundation for learning more about games and increase each other’s skill levels.

Supporting the Community

To provide as many opportunities as possible, we’d like to include more than just Street Fighter players in events. Street Fighter V may be the most popular fighting game in the world, but it’s not the only game we can support.

To start, monthlies will run two fixed tournaments every month: Street Fighter V and Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator. We’d like to support and help grow both communities in the St. Louis area.

We’d also like to provide a rotating third slot that will be offered to other game communities and organizers in the metro area, or to celebrate new game launches. We think there are audiences for other games that, if encouraged properly, can find time and space to shine and bring more players into their fold, and we’d like to help provide them with both venue space and stream time. We’ll have more on this after we have at least one monthly in the books.

What You Can Do to Help

If you’re interested in helping with tournament organizing, publicity, venue provision, stream commentary, or other aspects of supporting FGC events in the St. Louis area, please contact us and let us know. We’ll need help creating and sustaining something new for everyone.

If you would like to know more about where and when events are on the way, please consider signing up for our mailing list as well. We’ll be sending out new event notifications, surveys to ask you how we can improve the scene, and more, and we’d love for you to get involved.
